Boiler Stove

central heating boiler stoves

Wood is without doubt the greenest fuel to burn in any stove and to get the most from your wood you need to ensure that the wood is properly seasoned.

This will mean buying from a reputable supplier or storing your own cut and split wood for a period of at least 18 months to allow the moisture content to fall to around 20%.

Burning unseasoned wood should be a crime, it is bad for your chimney, it will not give out the heat of seasoned wood and you will not get that beautiful clean glass and a truly enjoyable real fire.

Boiler Stove Tips

As manufacturers of the UK’s leading boiler stove we are fully aware of our responsibility to continue to provide the best advice on installing and running a solid fuel central heating system. The following advice is designed to answer some of the more commonly asked questions and give guidance on getting the best out of a Stratford stove.

1. Contact your Authorised Stratford Dealer or local Heating Engineer prior to ordering, ask him to calculate the BTU requirements of your system, it is important to match the BTU output of the boiler to that required by your system. The number of radiators in average installation given in the brochure is for guidance only, and should not be used alone for choosing the right size stove.

2. Stratford boiler stoves should only be installed in an indirect system.

3. A flue draw measurement should be taken at the time of installation and overdrawing flues should have measures taken to reduce their draw. Uncorrected, an overdrawing flue may mean that the stove is unable to shut down and slumber once installed, this can cause over firing and may damage the appliance.

4. A heat leak radiator should be installed that is 10% of the rated output of the boiler.

5. A radiator may be required in the room where the boiler is installed as the radiated heat outputs of boiler models are fairly small due to the efficiency of the boiler.

6. A pipe stat must be fitted to the return hot water, set at 45°C.

7. A rust inhibitor should be added to the heating once the engineer is happy there are no leaks from the system.

8. If using solid fuel ensure only recommended fuels are used, and definitely no Petroleum Based fuels. Please refer to your installation manual for further information.

9. If burning wood use only seasoned, dry wood. Unseasoned and wet wood will burn inefficiently and can damage flue and stove. For every twelve hours alight a period of fast burn should be undertaken for up to 20 minutes to ensure the flue is cleared.
