Stratford Ecoboiler Tips

As one of the UK's leading boiler stove manufacturers, we are fully aware of our responsibility in continuing to provide full advice on installing and running a solid fuel central heating system.
The following advice is designed to answer some of the more commonly asked questions and give guidance on getting the best out of an Ecoboiler and ensuring many years trouble-free heating.
- Contact your Authorised Ecoboiler Dealer or local Heating Engineer prior to ordering; ask him to calculate the kW (or BTU's) requirements of your system, it is important to match the BTU output of the boiler to that required by your system. The number of radiators in average installation given in the brochure is for guidance only, and should not be used alone for choosing the right size stove.
- Ecoboiler stoves should only be installed in an indirect system.
- A flue draw measurement should be taken at the time of installation and overdrawing flues should have measures taken to reduce their draw. Uncorrected, an overdrawing flue may mean that the stove is unable to shut down and slumber once installed, this can cause over firing and may damage the appliance.
- A heat leak radiator should be installed that is 10% of the rated output of the boiler.
- A radiator may be required in the room where the boiler is installed. This is because the radiated heat output of these models is fairly small due to the efficiency of the boiler.
- A pipe stat must be fitted to the return hot water and set at 45°C.
- A rust inhibitor should be added to the heating once the engineer is happy there are no leaks from the system.
- If using solid fuel, ensure only recommended fuels are used, and definitely no Petroleum based fuels. Please refer to your installation manual for further information.
- If burning wood, use only seasoned, dry wood. Unseasoned and wet wood will burn inefficiently and can damage flue and stove. For every twelve hours alight, a period of fast burn should be undertaken for up to 20 minutes to ensure the flue is cleared.
- Check the thermostat damper flap regularly to ensure that it is able to close against the fire and no ash is fouling it.
- When not in use during the summer months, please leave the door open and if possible lower the throat plate to allow the maximum air movement through the fire. Use a releasing agent on all moveable components to stop rust from forming on them. Put a roll of paper against the back and sides of the firebox to absorb any condensation that may form on the internal boiler walls and change this frequently.
- The chimney must be swept at least once a year if burning solid fuel, and more often if wood is the main fuel source.
- Pipe work connections must be crossed flowed.
